Épernay lies on the left bank of the Marne, at the crossroads of the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims (Marne department). The town has no cru status, but together with Reims is regarded as the capital of champagne.
- Avenue de Champagne: this avenue is lined with the stately buildings of houses such as Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, Pol Roger, Boizel and de Venoge. The avenue and its cellars are included in the UNESCO World Heritage site "Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne".
- Cellars: beneath the town lie kilometres of tunnels in the chalk, in which millions of bottles age.
- Producers: besides the houses mentioned, among others Mercier, De Castellane, Alfred Gratien, Gosset, Besserat de Bellefon, Leclerc Briant and Charles Mignon.
- Vineyards: around the town mainly Pinot Meunier is grown, alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
