Champagne Didier Lefèvre is a Propriétaire-Récoltant (independent producer) located at 13, quai de la Villa, 51200 Épernay, France. Didier Lefèvre is a fourth-generation winegrower and has run the estate since 1980.
History and Ownership
- The Lefèvre family has been active in winegrowing for four generations.
- Didier Lefèvre took over the estate in 1980.
- The business operates as an independent producer (Récoltant-Coopérateur) and is part of the Champagne de Vignerons network.
- The legal entity is an EARL (agricultural business in partnership form), established in 2005 (although the winegrowing tradition is much older).
Vineyards
The vineyard area is divided over three important regions in Champagne, with a strong focus on Chardonnay:
- Oger (Côte des Blancs): Grand cru, source for the Blanc de Blancs.
- Western slopes of Épernay: For Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Sézannais: Including Vindey, for complex base wines.
- Harvest volume: About 20,000 bottles a year.
Method
- Vinification: Didier Lefèvre delivers his harvest to the Union Champagne, a cooperative in Avize, where the vinification takes place.
- Style: The champagnes are known for their finesse and elegance. For some cuvées the malolactic fermentation is limited or delayed to preserve freshness.
- Disgorgement: The Extra Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is given a low dosage (low sugar content) after disgorgement.
- Visits: Free tastings by appointment (max. 10 people) at the villa in Épernay.
Champagnes and Prices
The range includes, among others:
- Extra Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs: 100% Chardonnay from Oger, golden in colour, with a decorative bottle.
- Brut Tradition: Harmonious blend of 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir.
- Brut Rosé: Ruby red, charming and compact; received the gold medal at the Concours des Vins Elle à Table in 2023.
- Millésimé: Pure Chardonnay, with a floral and baked aroma, creamy on the palate.
