Champagne Boizel is a traditional champagne house founded in 1834 by Auguste and Marie Boizel in Épernay, where it is still based at the prestigious Avenue de Champagne 46. The house has been run by the family for centuries; after six generations the reins are now held by the brothers Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel, who have been in charge since 2019. Since 1994 Boizel has been part of the BCC group (formerly BCI), but it remains a family business.
The vineyards cover approximately 7 hectares and are spread over the best Crus in Champagne, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru areas in the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs (notably Avize) and the Vallée de la Marne. The approach combines tradition with modernity: the champagnes are stored in historic, UNESCO-protected cellars beneath the Avenue de Champagne. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, but part of the cuvées, such as the prestige champagne, is still matured in wooden barrels (fûts de réemploi) for extra complexity.
Boizel's champagnes are known for their finesse and balance, with a range varying from accessible blends to exclusive millésimes:
- Joyau de France: The cuvée de prestige, created in 1961. This is a vintage champagne (only in the best years) of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, often matured in wood.
- Brut Réserve: The classic blend of 55% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier, with a dosage of 9 g/l of sugar.
- Grand Vintage: An annual vintage champagne from Grand and Premier Crus, usually based on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Blanc de Blancs / Blanc de Noirs: Single-cru wines that emphasise the specific terroir characteristics of the Côte des Blancs (Chardonnay) or Montagne de Reims (Pinot Noir).
- Rosé: Obtained by blending still red wine with white champagne, often based on Pinot Noir.
Visitors can visit the house via the Atelier 1834 for tours of the cellars and tastings, learning more about the history and craft of the Boizel family.
