Jacquinot & Fils is a champagne house in Épernay, founded in 1947 by Pierre Jacquinot and his sons Jacques and Jean-Guy. The family has been active in the wine trade since the 17th century; Pierre developed the vineyard after the First World War and started producing his own champagne in 1929. The house settled in 1949 in chalk cellars hewn by hand, 19 metres underground, where the champagne ages at a constant 12°C.
Vineyards and Winemaking The house owns 17 hectares of vineyards, of which 7 hectares are used for its own champagne, grown using sustainable viticulture (raisonnée). The grapes are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The must ages in cooled stainless steel vats before being bottled in the spring. The house uses longer ageing times than required: the Brut Sans Année rests for two years, the Rosé four years, the Symphonie ten years and the prestige cuvée Harmonie fourteen years. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve freshness.
Champagnes and Current Policy The house is run by Jean-Manuel Jacquinot (oenologist, director since 2009) and François Nicolet (son-in-law of Jacques). Well-known cuvées are:
- Private Cuvée: The best-selling Brut Sans Année (70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir), supplemented with 20-30% reserve wine.
- Symphonie: A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir.
- Harmonie: The prestige cuvée, a vintage of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir.
- Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs: Various non-vintage and vintage variants.
