Besserat de Bellefon is a champagne house based in Épernay, founded in 1843 by Edmond Besserat. Since 2006 it has been owned by the Lanson-BCC group.
- History: The name arose in 1920 through the marriage of Edmond Besserat to Yvonne de Bellefon. In 1930 Victor Besserat created the Cuvée des Moines at the request of the restaurant La Samaritaine de Luxe for a champagne that pairs perfectly with meals.
- Vineyards: The house owns 25 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the Marne valley where a lot of Pinot Meunier grows, and buys grapes from selected growers from Grand and Premier Cru municipalities.
- Approach: The champagnes undergo no malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness. By using less liqueur de tirage, a lower pressure (4.5 atm) results, with 30% finer bubbles and a silky-smooth mousse.
- Champagnes: The range includes the iconic Cuvée des Moines (Brut, Extra Brut, Rosé), Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, Vintage cuvées (such as 2012/2015), and the historic Cuvée B de B.
