Les Riceys lies in the far south of Champagne, in the Aube department, in the Barséquanais close to the border with Burgundy. The commune consists of three centres: Riceys-Haut, Riceys-Haute-Rive and Riceys-Bas. The village has no cru classification, but is regarded as the wine commune with the largest vineyard area in Champagne.
- Vineyards: pinot noir dominates, planted on Kimmeridgian limestone marl.
- Special feature: Les Riceys is the only commune with three appellations: Champagne, Coteaux Champenois and the rare still Rosé des Riceys, a rosé wine made from pinot noir.
- Producers: the village has many family businesses, including Morize Père et Fils, Jacques Defrance, Pascal Walczak, Bauser, Laurenti, Didier Goussard, Pélissot, Thierry Patrois and Batisse Lancelot.
The champagnes are ripe, full and fruity, with the power of pinot noir from the south.
