Écueil lies in the Petite Montagne de Reims, south-west of Reims (Marne department). The village has Premier Cru status.
- Vineyards: the soils here are lighter, with sand and clay over the chalk. Pinot Noir is the main grape, followed by Chardonnay and Meunier.
- Character: the champagnes are fine and fresh, with bright red fruit and a slender structure.
- Producers: in recent years the village has made a name for itself thanks to vignerons such as Frédéric Savart and Nicolas Maillart. Vincent and Louis Brochet, Lacourte-Godbillon, Leclère-Pointillart, A. Perrard and Allouchery-Perseval, among others, are also based here.
