Cramant is one of the most famous villages of the Côte des Blancs, in the Marne department, a few kilometres south-east of Épernay between Chouilly and Avize. The village has Grand Cru status.
- Vineyards: the slopes lie on a thick chalk subsoil and are planted almost entirely with chardonnay.
- Character: champagnes from Cramant are known for their finesse, purity and chalky minerality, and are widely used for blanc de blancs. The major houses are also keen to buy grapes here.
- Producers: Bonnaire, Lancelot-Pienne, Petitjean-Pienne, Mallol, Paul Lebrun and Saintgybryen, among others, are based in the village.
Anyone driving into the village sees a giant champagne bottle standing as a landmark on the edge of Cramant.
