Champagne Mallol is an independent champagne house based in the Grand Cru village of Cramant in the Côte des Blancs, specialising in Chardonnay. The house combines a centuries-old family history with modern production techniques and a rejuvenated brand image.
History
The origins of the house date from the early 20th century, arising from the Mallol and Gantois families. Joseph Mallol laid the foundation, followed by his son Pierre (a contractor) and grandson Bernard, who took over the business in 1981 and expanded it to 7 hectares after his marriage to Corinne Gantois. In 2015 Grégory Mallol took over the management, and in 2023 the brand name was simplified from Mallol-Gantois to Mallol, under the leadership of Grégory and his wife Estelle, who sets the marketing and commercial direction.
Vineyards and Terroir
The estate currently comprises 8 hectares of vineyards, spread over about thirty plots. All vineyards are located in Grand Cru villages, mainly Cramant and Chouilly, with plots in Avize and Oger as well. The vineyards are largely planted with Chardonnay, resulting in an exclusive Blanc de Blancs profile. The house has its own modern production facility for vinification and ageing.
Winemaking and Champagnes
Maison Mallol applies a strict quality policy with extended ageing in the cellar:
- The Signature Maison cuvées are aged for at least 3 years.
- The Collection Or Blanc (numbered single-plot wines) ages for more than 10 years.
Well-known cuvées include the Blanc de Blancs Brut, the Grande Réserve (long ageing), and the parcel cuvée Goutte d'or. The house is known for the purity and modernity of its Chardonnays, with a visual identity simplified to a monogram that reflects the artisanal and architectural roots of the family.
