Verzenay lies in the Marne department, on the northern flank of the Montagne de Reims, south-east of Reims. The village has Grand Cru status.
- Vineyards: the largely north-facing slopes on chalk are planted predominantly with pinot noir, complemented by chardonnay.
- Character: despite the cool aspect, Verzenay produces pinot noir with structure, freshness and taut acidity; the grapes are sought after by major houses for their blends.
- Producers: the village has many growers, including Bernard Hatté & Fils, Hugues Godmé, Sabine Godmé, Jean Lallement, Jean-Claude Mouzon, Quenardel & Fils, Pierre Arnould, Denis Bovière and Vignon Père & Fils.
- Sight: the Verzenay lighthouse, in the middle of the vineyards, houses a museum about viticulture. The well-known windmill of Verzenay also stands on the hill.
