Avenay-Val-d'Or lies in the Marne department, in the Grande Vallée de la Marne, just north-east of Épernay and on the southern flank of the Montagne de Reims. The village has Premier Cru status.
- Vineyards: the slopes are dominated by pinot noir, complemented by chardonnay. The subsoil consists of chalk with calcareous clay.
- Character: the wines are generally full and fruity, with the structure that belongs to pinot noir from the southern slope of the Montagne. Agrapart even makes a separate pinot noir cuvée from this terroir.
- Producers: the village is home to Gabriel-Pagin & Fils, William Saintot, Hubert Billiard, Picart-Thiout and Yves Ruffin, among others. William Saintot also owns vineyards in the Premier Cru villages of Mutigny and Bisseuil, and Gabriel-Pagin in Avize and Cramant, among others.
