Champagne Picart-Thiout is a family business based in Avenay-Val-d'Or (Marne), active as a propriétaire récoltant-manipulant (owner-grower-producer) for four generations. The business was formally founded on 16 February 1995, under the legal form of S.C.E.V. Picart Marcel (also known as GFA Picart-Thiout).
Vineyards and Grape Varieties
The house has 6.5 hectares of its own vineyards spread over the communes of Avenay-Val-d'Or, Tauxières-Mutry and Tours-sur-Marne. The wines are classified Premier Cru and Grand Cru. The grape varieties include the three classic Champagne grapes:
- Pinot Noir: for power and body.
- Pinot Meunier: for fruitiness.
- Chardonnay: for freshness and liveliness.
Approach
The Picart family vinifies and ages the wines according to Champagne tradition. The champagnes undergo slow ageing in their own cellars. The range includes various cuvées, including:
- Rosé 1er Cru: A blend of 54.5% Pinot Noir 2022, 37% Chardonnay 2022 and 8.5% red wine AOP Avenay Pinot Noir 2022 (bottled in 2023).
- Coteaux Champenois Rouge: A red wine from the AOP Avenay (Premier Cru), consisting of 100% Pinot Noir 2022, aged in oak barrels.
