Montgueux is a wine village in the Aube department (10), on an isolated chalk hill a few kilometres west of Troyes. The village has no cru status, but has a distinct reputation of its own.
- Location: the hill of Montgueux stands apart from the rest of the Côte des Bar and from the Côte des Blancs. The vineyards lie on the south- and east-facing slopes.
- Vineyards: the soil consists of chalk, as in the Côte des Blancs, and chardonnay is the main grape.
- Character: chardonnay from Montgueux is riper and more exotic in fruit than that from the Côte des Blancs, but retains the freshness of the chalk.
- Producers: the village has made a name for itself through vignerons such as Olivier Lassaigne, Jean Velut, Didier Doué, Hélène Beaugrand, Marie Copinet and Vincent Couche.
