Monthelon lies in the Marne department, in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, a few kilometres south of Épernay. The village lies on a hill above its vineyards, next to neighbouring villages such as Mancy and Moussy. It has no cru classification.
- Vineyards: meunier is the main grape here, complemented by chardonnay and pinot noir, on calcareous clay over a chalk subsoil.
- Character: the champagnes are fruity and round, with freshness from the higher slopes.
- Producers: the best-known house is Julien Chopin, where the family has been growing vines since the eighteenth century; the house is also known for its single-variety ratafias. Alexandre Le Brun and Benoit Michel, among others, also work here.
- Sight: on the edge of the woods above the village lies the Jardin de Vignes des Demoiselles, a viewpoint with a picnic and tasting table and a sweeping view over the vineyards.
