Leroy-Meirhaeghe is a family estate in the hamlet of La Grange au Rez, in Montgueux, the hill overlooking Troyes in the Aube. The family has lived there for four generations. Marie and Lucien built up the house, after which Marius and Jeannine took over. In 1980 François and his wife Marie-Thérèse set about expanding the vineyard and renovating the estate; today the youngest daughter, Gabrielle, runs the house.
Vineyards The vines grow on the south and south-west-facing slopes of Montgueux. The subsoil is limestone with occasional pockets of red clay and flint. The hill is planted mainly with Chardonnay.
Method The estate practises responsible, sustainable viticulture and has worked without herbicides for several years, using grass cover and mechanical soil work.
Champagnes The cuvées are predominantly Chardonnay-based:
- Tradition Brut (Chardonnay with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) and Rosé
- Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay)
- Symphonie and Symphonie Millésime 2010
- Also a ratafia de champagne
