History: The Beaugrand family began winegrowing in Montgueux in 1919, with great-grandson Gustave registering the first harvest. The Montgueux region only received the Champagne appellation in 1927. Hélène Beaugrand, great-granddaughter of the founder, founded her own estate in 2018 after having previously worked as a service provider and gained international experience in countries such as South Africa and California. She represents the sixth generation and works with her son Cédric.
Vineyards and winemaking: The estate covers 3 hectares with old vines at least 45 years old, located on a hill with southern and south-eastern exposures. The soil consists of Turonian limestone and flint, which yields rich Chardonnay grapes with complex aromas. Hélène follows High Environmental Value Level 3 (HVE 3) and aims for biodynamics, with the vineyard grassed over to prevent disease and respect nature. The champagnes age at least 36 months in the bottle for complexity and fine bubbles.
Champagnes: The range consists of six different cuvées, produced in an annual quantity of about 25,000 bottles. The main ones are:
- Le Grand Carré: 100% Chardonnay, Brut Nature, 36 months of ageing.
- Derrière la cabane: 100% Chardonnay, Extra Brut, 36 months of ageing.
- Le Rosé Henriette: Blend of 50% Meunier and 50% Pinot Noir, Extra Brut ("Œil de Perdrix").
- Particules élémentaires: Blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Brut (5 g/l), 36 months of ageing.
- Au cœur des racines: 100% Chardonnay (2018 vintage), 5 years of ageing.
- A rare 100% Pinot Meunier edition is also offered.
Contact: The estate is based at 4 rue Léon Beaugrand, 10300 Montgueux and can be reached by telephone or e-mail for visits and tastings.
