Bethon is a small wine village in the Marne department, on the southern edge of Champagne, between Sézanne and Nogent-sur-Seine. It lies in the Sézannais, south of the Côte de Sézanne, and borders the state forest of the Traconne. Bethon has no cru status.
- Vineyards: chardonnay is the main grape here; pinot noir is used mainly for rosé and blends. The Sézannais is often seen as a southern offshoot of the Côte des Blancs.
- Wines: ripe, supple champagnes in which chardonnay sets the tone.
- Producers: the village is remarkably well represented. The Le Brun de Neuville cooperative was founded by growers from the southern slopes near Sézanne and works mainly with chardonnay. G. Gruet & Fils is the brand of the Union vinicole des Coteaux de Bethon. Dekeyne & Fils and Jarry Dominique are also based here.
