Champagne Dekeyne & Fils is a wine house based in Bethon (Côtes de Sézanne), a village in the south of the Champagne region, on their farm La Voglonière. The house is currently run by the brothers Gael and Baptiste Dekeyne, the fourth generation of winegrowers in the family.
History and Vineyards
- The Dekeyne family settled in Bethon in 1919.
- In 1962 they were the first in the village to rebuild the vineyards after the attack of the phylloxera louse.
- The estate covers 5 hectares of vineyards, consisting mainly of Chardonnay and a small percentage of Pinot Noir.
- Well-known plots are "Vieilles Vignes" (vineyards more than 50 years old) and the specifically named plot "Vignes de 1962".
Approach and Philosophy
- The brothers follow a biodynamic and organic approach (certified with AB and Demeter).
- They strive for a self-sufficient ecosystem on the farm, using plant manure and home-made tisanes.
- Vinification is careful: grapes are harvested by hand, slowly pressed in an old basket press and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks.
- They often produce champagnes from a single vintage and single plot, with minimal intervention and low dosage (sometimes 2-4 g sugar).
Champagnes (Selection)
- Vogloniers Extra-Brut Vintage 2018: A blend of their three main plots (50% old Chardonnay, 40% young Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir). Rests three years sur-lattes.
- Chardonnay "Vignes de 1962" Extra-Brut Vintage 2018: 100% Chardonnay from the plot planted in 1962. Dosage of 2 g.
- Millesime 2015: A Blanc de Blancs from the 2015 vintage, Brut with a price between €30 and €40.
- Nature & Chardonnay: Non-vintage Blanc de Blancs variants, unsweetened (Nature) and standard Brut respectively, priced around €20-€30.
- L'Instant Rosé: A blended rosé champagne, Brut.
The wine house is known for its dedication to the terroir and for passing on love for the earth through their vinification, with contact details available via [email protected] or telephone 03.26.80.69.56.
