Barbonne-Fayel lies in the Marne department (51), in the Sézannais, the southern continuation of the Côte des Blancs, close to Sézanne. The village has no cru status, but has the largest vineyard area of the Sézannais.
- Vineyards: the calcareous slopes of the Côte de Sézanne are ideally suited to chardonnay, which plays the leading role here. Pinot noir is also planted.
- Character: chardonnay from the Sézannais gives ripe, fruity and somewhat rounder champagnes than the northern Côte des Blancs.
- Producers: those working in the village include M. Marcoult, a family estate with chardonnay and pinot noir, La Bar La Bonne and Prophète & Co. The house of Pierre Launay, with its Louis de Chatet brand, is also based here.
