Bar-sur-Seine is a small town on the Seine in the Aube department, in the Barséquanais, the western part of the Côte des Bar south-east of Troyes. The commune has no cru status.
- Vineyards: in the Côte des Bar, Pinot Noir predominates, planted on lime-rich Kimmeridgian marl, the same subsoil found in Chablis. Chardonnay complements it.
- Character: the wines are generally ripe and fruity, with the rounder, fuller style that characterises Pinot Noir from the Aube.
- Producers: the champagne house Devaux is based here, as is Domaine La Borderie.
Bar-sur-Seine serves as one of the centres of the wine-growing area in the south of Champagne.
