Vineyards Ambonnay lies in the Côte des Grands Noirs of the Montagne de Reims and has been a grand cru village since the cru classification of 1895. The commune has 389 hectares of vines, 83% Pinot Noir and 17% Chardonnay, on south- and south-east-facing slopes where the chalk lies just beneath a thin layer of clay-limestone soil. The estate practises reasoned viticulture, with attention to biodiversity, soil work and grassed plots.
Approach The aim is a balance between Pinot Noir, for structure and red fruit, and Chardonnay, for minerality and delicate aromas. The base cuvées contain a substantial share of reserve wine.
