Champagne Claude Bernard is a récoltant-manipulant in Rouvres-les-Vignes, in the Côte des Bar. The family business was officially founded in 1996 and grew out of Claude and Isabelle Bernard's passion for the vine.
History In 1983 Claude took over a mixed farm combining vines and cereals. He planted the first vines in 1985, and the first tirage of 162 bottles followed in 1989. Cereal farming stopped in 2004 and production grew to 30,000 bottles in less than ten years. Their son Guillaume, trained in viticulture and oenology, joined in 2012; management has since passed from father to son.
Vineyards Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grow on clay-limestone soil with a fully south-facing exposure. The estate is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3, plants hedges and sows cover crops between the rows. Pruning follows the Chablis and asymmetric Guyot methods, and harvesting is done by hand.
Approach Since 2016 the estate has had temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The grape varieties are vinified separately and then blended.
