Champagne R. Pouillon (also R. Pouillon & Fils) is a récoltant-manipulant in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the Vallée de la Marne, run by Fabrice Pouillon, the third generation.
- History: Roger Pouillon settled in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in 1947. His son James developed the estate further, and since 1998 his grandson Fabrice has been in charge.
- Vineyards and terroir: The estate farms 7.7 hectares spread over 42 plots in grand cru and premier cru sites, including Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Mutigny and Épernay.
- Approach and style: In the vineyard the estate uses massal selection, compost, horse ploughing and cover crops. Vinification is plot by plot with indigenous yeasts, after which the wines spend 8 to 18 months in barrel. In 2004 Fabrice developed a method for the second fermentation using preserved grape juice instead of a sugar liqueur.
- Cuvées: Solera is a premier cru extra brut of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay made on the solera principle. Other wines include Grande Vallée, a Rosé de Macération and single-plot cuvées such as Chemin du Bois, Les Châtaigniers and Le Montgruguet.
