Champagne Paul Déthune is a traditional champagne house based in Ambonnay (Grand Cru of the Montagne de Reims), founded as a family business in 1840 with a lineage going back to 1610. The estate, owned by Pierre and Sophie Déthune (since 1995), farms 7 hectares of vineyards with a soil of chalk and clay-limestone, where mainly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown.
The approach is characterised by a strong commitment to sustainability and organics: the estate is certified for High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) and began the full conversion to organic viticulture in 2020. The champagnes are made using the traditional method, with the grapes harvested by hand and part of the wine fermented and aged in oak barrels, while stainless steel tanks and solar panels for energy are also used.
The range of champagnes includes various Grand Cru cuvées, including:
- Princesse des Thunes (Cuvée Prestige)
- Blanc de Noirs (including millésime)
- Rosé Grand Cru
- Brut Nature, Extra-Brut, Brut and Extra Dry versions
Visitors can visit the estate for tours and tastings (by appointment), where guests get to know the 17th-century cellars and the winery. Contact details are 2 rue du Moulin, 51150 Ambonnay, telephone +33 3 26 57 01 88 and e-mail [email protected].
