Champagne Pascal Machet is a family business based in Vaudemange (Marne), known for its carefully crafted champagnes. The business has been run since 2012 by Landry Machet and his wife Laura, while the commercialisation of the champagnes was started in the 1980s by Landry's father, Pascal. The family has been cultivating the land in the region for four generations.
Vineyards and Terroir
The vineyards cover approximately 4 hectares and lie mainly in Premier Cru areas. The main locations are:
- Vaudemange: The village in the Montagne de Reims, also called the "Perle Blanche".
- Merlaut: In the Côteaux Vitryats.
- Essoyes: In the Côteaux de l’Aube.
The Chardonnay grape dominates with about 80% of the plantings, complemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The soil is predominantly chalky and the climate is semi-oceanic to semi-continental.
Approach
Pascal Machet practises integrated viticulture (viticulture raisonnée/intégrée), paying attention to the health of the vines and respect for the environment. The harvest is done by hand. Vinification follows the traditional Champagne method, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. The champagnes mature on the lattes, in bottles and in cuves before being brought to market.
Champagnes and Contact
The house produces a varied range of champagnes, including a brut in which Chardonnay often predominates, resulting in an intense floral aroma. Approximately 20,000 bottles are produced annually. Visitors can visit the wine cellar and taste by appointment.
