History Champagne Jacquesson is one of the oldest independent houses, founded in 1798 in Châlons-sur-Marne by Claude and Memmie Jacquesson. The house enjoyed great renown in the 19th century under the innovative Adolphe Jacquesson, who invented the modern muselet and expanded production considerably; Napoleon I awarded the house a gold medal in 1810. After periods of change, including a takeover by the de Tassigny family, the house was bought in 1974 by Jean Chiquet, who moved the seat to Dizy. Under his sons Laurent and Jean-Hervé the focus was placed on quality and terroir, and in 2022 the house passed entirely to the Artémis Domaines group.
Vineyards The estate has 36 hectares of its own vineyards, located exclusively in Grand Cru and Premier Cru areas. The plots are divided between two regions: the Grande Vallée de la Marne (Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers) and the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Oiry, Champillon). The soils consist mainly of chalk, which contributes to the mineral and elegant style of the champagnes. The vineyards have been certified for organic farming since 2010, with hand harvesting and strict yield control.
Winemaking Jacquesson follows a non-industrial approach with a focus on expressing the terroir. The grapes are gently pressed in a traditional vertical press, with only the first pressing (the cuvée) used for the champagnes. Vinification and ageing take place in old oak foudres, without filtration or fining, to preserve pure fruitiness. The house style is characterised by very low dosages (often between 0 and 2.5 g/l, Extra-Brut or Brut Nature) and long ageing times, with the wine always given a rest period after disgorgement.
Champagnes The house is known for the Série 700, a series of non-vintage champagnes that each year receive a new number (e.g. Cuvée 748), based on the specific profiles of the harvest and stored reserve wines rather than a fixed recipe. In addition, Jacquesson produces exclusive single-site cuvées such as Dizy Corne Bautray (Chardonnay), Avize Champ Caïn (Chardonnay), Aÿ Vauzelle Terme (Pinot Noir) and Dizy Terres Rouges (rosé). For longer ageing the house also offers the Dégorgement Tardif (late disgorgement) series, in which the wine lies on the lees for up to ten years.
