J. Pérard & Fils is a family estate in the grand cru village of Ambonnay, in the Montagne de Reims. The Pérard family traces its winegrowing roots back to 1647, when Martin Pérard from Cernay-les-Reims became the first of a long line of vignerons. Around 1930 Édouard-Julien settled in Ambonnay, where he had planted his first vines in 1928.
History
- 1972: his son Jean-Paul took over and turned the estate towards selling champagne.
- 1996: Patrick has run the estate since then, together with his son Virgile.
Vineyards The vineyards face south on chalky soils and are planted mainly with Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay. The estate is HVE-certified and since the 2000s has returned to working with the plough instead of heavy machinery.
Approach Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The blended cuvées undergo malolactic fermentation; the vintage wines follow specific practices for slow maturation.
Champagnes The range includes Réserve Brut, Sélection Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Extra-Dry Blanc de Blancs, Rosé Brut, Millésime 2019, the prestige cuvée Édouard-Julien Millésime 2015 (a tribute to the founder), Cuvée Diadème and Collection Vintage 2011.
