Champagne Denis Frézier is a récoltant-manipulant in Monthelon, between the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs, and a member of the Vignerons Indépendants de Champagne. The family history goes back to 1823 and spans seven generations of growers.
History For a long time the whole harvest was sold to Champagne houses, until in 1935 Alfred Frézier began vinifying part of it himself and selling it under his own name. His son Denis took over in 1975 and expanded the vineyard. Sébastien Frézier has run the house since 2003; since 2012 he has made the wine himself and brought out the character of the different terroirs. In 2014 the estate added its own pressing centre and a temperature-controlled stainless-steel cuverie.
Vineyards The estate farms around 6 hectares in Monthelon, Mancy, Chavot-Courcourt, Hautvillers, Grauves and Cramant, planted with 45% Meunier, 45% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir; the vines average 32 years of age. Since 2016 the estate has been HVE and VDC certified, herbicides have been abandoned, and since 2023 it has been certified organic.
Approach After bottling, the wines age for 2 to 8 years before disgorgement, followed by at least 3 months' rest.
