Champagne Christophe Baron is the Champagne estate of winemaker Christophe Baron in Charly-sur-Marne, in the Vallée de la Marne. After a career in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, where he made his name with Cayuse, Horsepower and Hors Catégorie, he returned to his family's vineyards in Champagne.
- Vineyards and terroir: The family parcels lie in Charly-sur-Marne, Crouttes-sur-Marne and Porteron. Baron had the soils of his hillside plots studied by soil scientists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, who found a great variety of soil types.
- Approach and style: Baron works exclusively with Pinot Meunier, the traditional grape of the Marne Valley, following the principle of "single vineyard, single vintage, single grape and no dosage". The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts in a mix of demi-muids and barrels.
- Cuvées: Each cuvée comes from a single plot, such as Les Hautes Blanches Vignes (a 0.602 ha plot planted in 1969 on a fairly steep south-west-facing slope), Les Alouettes and Le Dessus du Bois Marie, all released as Brut Nature.
