Champagne Charles Collin is a champagne house based in Fontette (Aube department), founded in 1952 as one of the first cooperatives in the Côte des Bar. The house bears the name of Charles Collin, one of the founders, and in 1993 began marketing under this brand name. The founder's vision, "the best modernity for the best tradition", remains the guiding principle for production.
The vineyards cover approximately 390 hectares (sometimes given as 330 ha) and are worked by around 160 winegrowers. The vines are more than 90% planted with Pinot Noir, the emblematic variety of the Côte des Bar, complemented by Chardonnay. This results in champagnes with a lot of freshness and finesse, with Pinot Noir forming the house signature.
The approach includes full control over vinification and ageing within the house, from hand-picking to shipping. The champagnes age for at least three years, with longer ageing times of six to seven years for millésimes. The house has a modern press centre and applies strict quality standards, such as ISO certification. Visitors can visit the cellars and production facilities by appointment and taste in the house's own shop.
The champagnes include a wide range of cuvées, including:
- Brut Sélection: Awarded a gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole 2013.
- Brut Rosé: Awarded a silver medal at the Concours Général Agricole 2013.
- Cuvée Charles: The prestige cuvées, in both white and rosé, named after the founder.
- La Belle Gabrielle: A specific white cuvée.
- Brut Millésimé: Vintage champagnes for extra complexity.
The house produces an average of 850,000 bottles a year and has a team of 50 to 99 employees. Contact details are: 27 rue des Pressoirs, 10360 Fontette, telephone +33 (0)3 25 38 31 00 and website https://champagne-charles-collin.com.
