Champagne Brimoncourt is a modern champagne house based in Aÿ, founded in 2008 by Alexandre Cornot. The house is located in a former printing works from 1883 (Ateliers Édouard Plantet) with architectural links to Gustave Eiffel, where champagnes have been produced since 2014.
History and Philosophy Cornot, a former naval officer and art dealer, bought the dormant Brimoncourt brand in 2008 to give it new life. The philosophy centres on lightness, elegance and accessibility, inspired by the Esprit Régence. The house's values are elegance, sharing, independence and lightness of touch.
Vineyards and Sources Brimoncourt operates as a Négociant-Manipulant and owns no vineyards of its own. The house carefully selects grapes from partner growers on Premier Cru and Grand Cru terroirs:
- Chardonnay: from the Sézannais and the Côte des Blancs.
- Pinot Noir and Meunier: from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne.
Approach and Style Under cellar master François Huré, the best plots are used to achieve a fresh, pure and chiselled (ciselé) profile. The champagnes undergo long ageing to develop complexity, yet retain a lively character with fine bubbles. The approach combines modernism with tradition, with an emphasis on freshness and balance without heavy, over-complicated blends.
Champagne Range The core collection includes:
- Brut Régence: A blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir (1er cru), named after the royal courts.
- Blanc de Blancs: Made from 100% Chardonnay, known for its freshness and finesse.
- Extra Brut: A dry style (often Grand Cru) with 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay.
- Brut Rosé: A lively rosé of 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and Meunier.
- Millésime: Annual cuvées, such as the renowned Millésime 2009 (70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir).
