Buxeuil is a wine village in the Côte des Bar, in the Aube department, located on the Seine in the Barséquanais, between Bar-sur-Seine and Les Riceys. The village has no cru classification.
- Vineyards: the slopes of the Barséquanais lie on Kimmeridgian limestone marl, the same formation as in Chablis. Pinot noir is the main grape, alongside chardonnay.
- Character: the champagnes are ripe, round and fruity, with the supple power of pinot noir from the Aube.
- Producers: the family business Gruet is based here; the family had worked in the vineyards of the Côte des Bar for centuries, and since 1975 the house has made its own champagne, supplemented by a négociant business. The house of Moutard, known for its cuvées from old and rare grape varieties, also has its headquarters in Buxeuil.
