History The Vauversin family has been active in Oger since 1640, when Nicolas de Vauversin owned vineyards. In 1930 Fernand Vauversin began commercial champagne production, instead of selling grapes to the large houses. The house is currently run by Laurent Vauversin (fourth generation to produce champagne) and his father Bruno.
Vineyards The estate has 3 hectares of vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Oger in the Côte des Blancs. The soil consists of chalky ground, ideal for 100% Chardonnay. Some specific plots are Les Crayères (planted in 1954) and Rossignol (old wood, planted in 1952/1988).
Working methods Since 2014 the estate has been organically certified, the first in Oger. Laurent Vauversin applies minimal intervention: use of indigenous yeast, no filtration, and low sulphite levels (<35mg/l). The champagnes are riddled by hand in the natural cellar. Reserve wines are often aged in wooden barrels (barriques/foudres) in order to avoid wood notes.
