Champagne Trudon is an independent champagne house based in Festigny in the Vallée de la Marne, run by Jérôme Trudon, an oenologist who took over the business in 2010. The house, which goes back to its foundation by his great-grandfather Lucien Trudon in the 1920s (and officially started in 1960 by Marcel Trudon), is known for its focus on Pinot Meunier and a stylish, consistent house style.
Vineyards and Terroir The operation comprises 7.5 hectares of vineyards on argilo-calcareous soils. The grape varieties are distributed as follows:
- 90% Pinot Meunier (the dominant variety)
- 6% Pinot Noir
- 4% Chardonnay
The business is certified as Récoltant-Manipulant (grower who bottles his own wine) and holds High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, working in agriculture raisonnée.
Working Methods and Philosophy Jérôme Trudon approaches champagne as a "wine style" rather than merely a product. His working method is characterised by:
- The use of blends of the best pressings for pure flavour profiles.
- Preservation of freshness during vinification.
- A large share of reserve wines to guarantee the house style over several years.
- Long ageing on the lees to develop aromatic richness; some cuvées such as Magnificence are partly aged in oak barrels.
Well-Known Champagnes and Awards The portfolio consists of seven cuvées, several of which have won awards:
- Magnificence: A high-quality cuvée of 50% Meunier and 50% Chardonnay, aged in barrels. Was named Coup de Cœur 3 stars in the Guide Hachette 2024 and won gold in 2018/2019.
- Emblématis: The house style, based on Pinot Meunier, known for its roundness and fruitiness.
- Sinegramme: A Brut Nature (zero dosage) with 70% Meunier, awarded 3 stars in the Guide Hachette 2024 and a score of 17/20 in Le Point.
- Dyade: A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, awarded gold in 2016.
