Champagne Stéphane Regnault is a récoltant-manipulant in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the Côte des Blancs. Stéphane Regnault gave up earlier careers to take over the family estate.
- Vineyards and terroir: The vineyards lie in the grand cru villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger; most of the vines are 40 to 60 years old.
- Approach and style: Regnault focuses on single-plot champagnes, as each site has its own identity. The estate first moved to sustainable viticulture (HVE and VDC) and has farmed organically since the 2020 harvest. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, partly in barrel, and dosage is low.
- Cuvées: The cuvées are named after musical modes, as a tribute to the modal jazz the winemaker loves: Dorien, Lydien, Mixolydien and Chromatique. The number on the label is the sum of the vintages used. The Mixolydien comes from the lieu-dit Le Moulin in Oger, with vines planted in the 1970s on an east-facing slope with a chalk-rich subsoil.
