Champagne Rémi Leroy is a family estate in Meurville, in the Côte des Bar (Aube), run by Rémi Leroy, a Bordeaux-trained oenologist.
- Vineyards and terroir: The estate covers around 9.5 hectares in Meurville, Bergères and Fontaine. The soils are Kimmeridgian and Portlandian; millions of years ago the area lay beneath the sea, leaving marine fossils in the soil. The estate is farmed organically.
- Approach and style: Alongside the blends, Rémi Leroy makes a few single-plot wines with little or no dosage.
- Cuvées: The best-known single-plot cuvée is Mer sur Mont, from a plot of around 1 hectare on a Portlandian plateau in Meurville, with old vines planted in 1960 as a massal selection of Pinot Noir, Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The wine is fermented in barrique, the second fermentation takes place under cork, and it ages around six years before disgorgement. The name refers to the steep slopes of Meurville ("Mont") and the ancient seabed ("Mer"). The house also makes an Extra Brut, among others.
