Philbert & Fils is a family house and récoltant-manipulant in Rilly-la-Montagne, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The ancestors were already working the vines at the end of the 19th century, but it was Victor Philbert who began producing his own champagne in 1923. His descendant Henri became a récoltant-manipulant and created the Champagne Philbert brand. Six generations have since succeeded one another; the house is still owned by the founding family and since 2021 has been run by Yannick Dubois, vineyard manager and maker of the champagnes.
Vineyards The vineyards lie mainly in Rilly-la-Montagne and in the neighbouring villages of Ludes, Taissy, Montbré and Villers-Allerand, all Premier Cru. Three grape varieties are grown: Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The oldest plot is more than 60 years old. The house works without insecticides or herbicides and harvests by hand; it has been HVE certified since 2019.
Method Vinification takes place in tanks. The regular cuvées age for at least 3 years, the others for 3 to 6 years.
