Legras & Haas is a champagne house based in Chouilly (Côte des Blancs), founded in 1991 by François Legras and Brigitte Haas and currently run by their sons Rémi, Olivier and Jérôme Legras.
History and Family
- Foundation: The Legras & Haas brand name was launched in 1991, after Brigitte Haas had already founded a house in 1983. François Legras comes from a winegrowing family with four centuries of history.
- Current Management: The three brothers divide the responsibilities (vineyards, vinification, sales) but work together during vinification to perfect the blends.
- Philosophy: The house combines tradition and innovation, with a focus on authentic, balanced wines and respect for the terroir.
Vineyards and Terroir
- Area: The estate manages approximately 37 hectares of vineyards (sources vary between 30-39 ha).
- Locations:
- Chouilly (Côte des Blancs): The heart of the estate, with grand cru status and limestone soil.
- Vitry-le-François: For Pinot Noir.
- Les Riceys: For Pinot Noir.
- Additional purchases of grapes from the Marne Valley.
- Grape varieties: Mainly Chardonnay (especially in Chouilly), supplemented with Pinot Noir and Meunier.
Winemaking
- Vinification: The house uses a perpetual reserve (réserve perpétuelle) that began in 1995 for certain cuvées.
