Champagne Larnaudie-Hirault is a family-run estate based in Trois-Puits, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims, just a few kilometres from Reims. The house style is characterised by expressive champagnes that highlight the specific terroirs of the region.
History and Management The estate was founded in 1975 by Yves and Marie-Thérèse Larnaudie. Their son Mickaël Larnaudie joined in 2006 and took over full management of the estate in 2015. The current generation takes a respectful approach to viticulture and vinification, building on centuries-old traditions while focusing on new markets and ecological sustainability.
Vineyards and Terroir The estate manages a vineyard of approximately 6 to 7 hectares, divided over 18 plots. The grapes come mainly from Premier Cru villages in the Montagne de Reims, namely Trois-Puits, Taissy, Montbré and Sacy. The vineyards are planted with the three traditional Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The soil and climate of the Montagne de Reims contribute to the power and finesse of the Pinot Noir, a true speciality of the house.
Winemaking and Sustainability Larnaudie-Hirault is a Récoltant-Manipulant (R.M) and Vigneron Indépendant, which means that all stages of production, from grape to bottle, are carried out on the estate. The winery combines stainless steel tanks for consistency with oak barrels for the pure expression of specific grape varieties or plots. The estate is known for its environmentally conscious approach: after more than ten years of ecological efforts and certifications (HVE3, VDC), the estate has been officially converting to organic viticulture since 2020, with the first organic wines harvested in 2023.
Champagnes and Cuvées The range includes a wide variety of champagnes, from easy-drinking styles to complex vintage examples:
- Brut Nature Zero Dosage: A balance of 1/3 Pinot Noir, 1/3 Pinot Meunier and 1/3 Chardonnay. This champagne is direct and tense, without added dosage, and emphasises the pure characteristics of the terroir.
- Brut Rosé: Made from 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay. The pink hue is obtained by adding Pinot Noir red wine (fermented in oak barrels). The profile is fruity with notes of cherry and gooseberry.
- Blanc de Blancs: A 100% Chardonnay champagne, known for its finesse and elegance, suitable with shellfish and seafood.
- Blanc de Noirs: A 100% Pinot Noir champagne, powerful and gastronomic, ideal with poultry or cheese.
- Brut Prestige: A blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, from the best Premier Cru plots, with a dosage of 6g/L.
- Pur Meunier: A rare cuvée of 100% Pinot Meunier, which shows the ripeness and intensity of this genuine variety.
