Jean Valentin is a family estate in Sacy, in the Montagne de Reims. The family history goes back to the ancestor Jehan Roualet at the end of the 16th century. From 1922 Jane Roualet worked the vineyard during difficult years for the champagne trade. Her son Jean Valentin took over in 1946, was one of the first growers in Sacy with his own press and founded the brand in 1948. His son Gilles, previously head of the viticulture department at the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne, and his wife Edith took over the estate with the 1994 harvest, enlarged the vineyard and developed exports, reaching a production of up to 50,000 bottles a year. The fourth generation, Brice Valentin, is carrying on the work.
Vineyards The estate has 5 hectares, mostly Premier Cru, in Sacy, Écueil, Ville-Dommange and Germigny, on chalk: 40% Meunier, 33% Pinot Noir and 27% Chardonnay. It is certified HVE and Viticulture Durable en Champagne, uses organic fertilisers and mating disruption against insects, and ploughs most of its soils.
