History The champagne house was founded in 1965 in Pierry by Henri and Françoise Sélèque, with the support of Jean Bagnost (mayor of Pierry). Their son Jean Sélèque took over the business in 1974 and expanded the activity. Since 2008 the estate has been run by the third generation, Nathalie Sélèque (daughter of Jean), who launched the brand Champagne Jean Sélèque in 2013 and added the Nathalie Sélèque line in 2020.
Vineyards and Terroir The estate owns about 5.15 hectares of vineyard, spread over four communes: Pierry (premier cru), Moussy, Epernay and Boursault. The grape varieties are distributed as follows:
- Chardonnay (50%): for elegance and freshness.
- Pinot Meunier (40%): for fruitiness and roundness.
- Pinot Noir (10%): for power and refinement.
Important plots include Les Rouges Fosses, Cantuel, Les Noues and Sous Boursois.
Winemaking Production is characterised by traditional craftsmanship and respectful viticulture (viticulture raisonnée). The emphasis is on highlighting the terroir, with the champagnes fully revealing their finesse and complexity after each harvest. The house is known for its personal approach and for offering tastings.
Champagnes The house style ranges from dynamic, fruity champagnes to more complex, longer-aged cuvées. Well-known cuvées are:
- BSA (Brut Sans Année): A young, dynamic champagne with lots of fruit.
- Cuvée Spéciale: Aged longer for more complex aromas.
- Cuvée de Réserve: Extra brut (4 g/l sugar) with a balanced blend.
- Or Blanc: A Blanc de Blancs, made from 100% Chardonnay.
- Rosé: Fruity and versatile, suitable as an aperitif or with dessert.
- Millésimé Comédie: Vintage release (e.g. 2004, 2006).
