Jean Plener Fils is a family estate in Bouzy, a grand cru village on the southern slope of the Montagne de Reims. The family has grown vines here for seven generations. In the 19th century the ancestor Jean-Paul Rémy settled as a winegrower; in the early 20th century his granddaughter married Jean Plener. Their son Jean, the fifth generation, began making his own champagne and dug the cellar beneath the house. His son Jean-François studied oenology in Burgundy in the 1970s. Since 2017 his daughter Maud has run the estate, the first woman to do so.
Vineyards The estate farms 4.5 hectares spread over 18 plots on the Bouzy hillside, planted with 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, on chalk and clay-limestone. No herbicides whatsoever are used; since 26 October 2015 the estate has held the dual label Viticulture Durable en Champagne and Haute Valeur Environnementale.
Method Every step, from cultivation to vinification and ageing, takes place on the estate itself. The house deliberately chooses to make a limited number of cuvées.
