Champagne Hotte-Schmit is a family estate in Brimont (Massif de Saint-Thierry, north of Reims), founded in 1955 by Henri Hotte, who replanted the first vines after the devastation of the First World War and the phylloxera plague.
- History and Family: After the start in 1955, Jean-Paul Hotte and Martine Schmit created the estate in the late 1970s. Today the legacy is continued by the third generation: Laëtitia, Blanche-Marie and François-Xavier, supported by Martine, with a focus on innovation and respect for the terroir.
- Vineyards: The estate manages 6 hectares of vineyard on limestone and sandy soils with southern exposures. The grape varieties are Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Winegrowing follows the principles of certified sustainable viticulture (viticulture durable) and the harvest is done by hand.
- Winemaking: The winemaking combines traditional methods with modern precision. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks with malolactic fermentation, but ageing takes place partly in oak barrels to add complexity. The estate is a récoltant-manipulant (grows and bottles its own wine).
- Champagnes and Products: The range includes various cuvées such as La Voie du Moulin, Les Milevaux (including the 2019 vintage), La Perpétuelle and a Ratafia rouge. Visitors can taste and visit the estate by appointment.
