Hélène Monleau is a family estate of récoltants-manipulants with vineyards in Villenauxe-la-Grande, the only Aube terroir of the Côte de Sézanne. Hélène and Philippe changed their lives in 2014 to renew practices and express their terroir through champagne.
Vineyards The estate covers 4 hectares in Chardonnay country, on Cretaceous chalk. No herbicides or insecticides are used: plants and flowers are sown between the vines, fertilisation relies on green manures such as sainfoin and crimson clover, and there are seven beehives. Since 2020 the estate has been certified VDC and HVE level 3. All vineyard work is done by hand.
Approach Vinification is slow, and the bottles age for at least 3 years, sometimes 5 or 10, in the cellar before being released.
Champagnes
- La Lueur: 100% Chardonnay, made entirely in oak barrels.
- Also La Liberté, L'Icône, L'Audace and La Promesse.
The estate also hosts vineyard walks and shows among the vines.
