Goutorbe-Bouillot is a family estate in Damery, in the Vallée de la Marne, where three families – the Bouillots, the Goutorbes and the Papleux – have worked for champagne for generations. The Bouillots were already tending vines in Damery in 1755; the family name came about through the marriage of Pierrette Bouillot and Jules Goutorbe in 1913. In 1965 Edmond Papleux built new cellars on rue Anatole France, still the heart of the business today.
Today Dominique and Dominique and their son Bastien, who returned in 2010 after gaining experience in London, run the estate.
Vineyards The 8 hectares lie entirely in Damery, on chalk and marl soils. Alongside the once-dominant Meunier there is Chardonnay (35%) and Pinot Noir (25%). The estate is certified HVE and Viticulture Durable, uses only organic soil amendments and no longer uses insecticides.
Approach The house style, a balance between ripeness and freshness, relies on a solera: young wines are blended with this perpetual reserve.
Champagnes The range includes Reflets de Rivière, Noir Coteaux, Champ de Craie (brut and extra brut), Ru des Charmes, the vintages Cuvée Louise B 2016 and Clos des Monnaies 2012, and the cuvées Rétrospective 00-15 and 80-15.
