Champagne Fallet Dart is a family business based in Charly-sur-Marne (Western Marne Valley), with a history going back to 1610. The current leadership, Paul and Adrien Fallet, continues the tradition of authenticity, quality and innovation.
History and Family
- The Fallet family has been winegrowers for more than four centuries.
- The Fallet-Dart brand was founded in the 1970s by Gaston Fallet and Geneviève Dart.
- Since 1979 it has been an independent winegrower (Vigneron Indépendant) and exports about 10% of production.
Vineyards
- The estate covers 18 hectares spread over five villages around Charly-sur-Marne, including Drachy.
- The soil is a mix of clay, chalk and sand, which contributes to the complexity of the wines.
- The grape varieties are 45% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir.
Method
- Viticulture is reasoned (raisonnée), with a balance between conventional and organic methods.
- Work in the vineyard is entirely manual (picking, pruning, etc.), with 8,500 hours spent annually.
- Innovation is a focus, such as the use of drones, mechanical leaf removal and growing grass between the rows to combat erosion.
- Vinification takes place at the estate itself, with some champagnes aged in French oak barrels.
Champagnes The house produces six cuvées, the most important of which are:
- Cuvée de Réserve Brut: The best-selling brut, made from Pinot Meunier (70%) and Pinot Noir (30%), known for its freshness.
- Grande Sélection Brut: A premium cuvée with at least 48 months of ageing, composed of Pinot Noir (70%), Pinot Meunier (15%) and Chardonnay (15%).
- Millésime Brut: A vintage champagne with at least 72 months of ageing, mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
- Les Clos du Mont: An exceptional cuvée from the historic "Clos du Mont" vineyard, aged in oak barrels (a blend of the 1999 and 2002 vintages).
- Rosé Brut: A popular rosé made by the saignée method (Pinot Meunier 60%, Pinot Noir 40%), known for its fruity aromas and oak touches.
- Millésime Extra-Brut: An elegant vintage champagne (including 2008) with long ageing (at least 6 years).
Visitors can visit the estate for tastings, open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00.
