Champagne Fallet Jean-Luc et Alexandra is an independent winegrowing business (Vigneron Manipulant) based in Charly-sur-Marne (Drachy) in the Marne Valley. The business is known for its traditional method, quality-focused champagnes and accessible cellar visits.
History
The Fallet family has been active in winegrowing since 1610, with an unbroken tradition of five generations of champagne production since 1890. In 1903 Charles Fallet won a gold medal at the Paris agricultural exhibition. In the 1950s Roland Fallet introduced the first vinification techniques by converting an old barn into a cellar, becoming the family's first "Récoltant Manipulant" in 1972. Today Jean-Luc Fallet, together with Alexandra, continues this heritage tradition.
Vineyards and Grapes
The estate covers 5 hectares of vineyard. The grape varieties are distributed as follows:
- Pinot Meunier: 60% (the characteristic variety of the Marne Valley)
- Chardonnay: 30%
- Pinot Noir: 10%
Annual production volume is about 35,000 bottles, mainly sold on site.
Method
Jean-Luc Fallet follows balanced farming (agriculture raisonnée) and applies grassing between the rows to protect the soil and promote biodiversity. He uses only approved products and manages most tasks on the estate himself. The champagnes are made in the traditional way, with the wine often blended from the three classic champagne grapes, and he works with an oenologist to finalise the cuvées.
