Champagne Dosnon is a young, artisanal wine producer in Avirey-Lingey (Côte des Bar, Champagne), founded by Davy Dosnon. Although sources vary on the starting date (mentions of 2004, 2007 and 2017 occur), the house is known for its modern, sustainable approach and its emphasis on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
History and Terroir Davy Dosnon, originally from the region, returned to reunite the family plots and create a house that combines the Burgundian spirit with Champagne methods. The vineyards lie on Kimmeridgian limestone, similar to that of Chablis, resulting in a distinctly mineral style. The total area is roughly 7.5 hectares, of which Davy owns 2 to 2.15 hectares himself; the rest is purchased from local vignerons who share the same values.
Method
- Biodiversity and Vinification: The vines are grown without chemical pesticides. The must ferments entirely in 228-litre oak barrels (formerly from Puligny-Montrachet) and in tanks, without filtration or fining.
- Dosage and Ageing: The champagnes have a low dosage (often Brut Nature or Zéro Dosage). The house waits two months after disgorgement before selling to let the wine rest, and states this date and the dosage on the label.
- Production: Annual production is about 40,000 bottles, aimed at quality over quantity.
Champagnes and Range The range includes various cuvées that emphasise the expression of terroir:
- Récolte Brut Extra Brut: The Blanc de Noirs (70% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier) with a low dosage of 5 g/l; the house's calling card.
- Récolte Noire: A Blanc de Noirs that shows the power of Pinot Noir, often in Zéro Dosage.
- Alliae: A Brut Nature that received high acclaim (96/100).
- Ephémère and Récolte Blanche: White champagnes (including Blanc de Blancs) that reflect the freshness of the limestone terroir.
- Millésime: Vintage champagnes that can age in oak for a long time (up to 9 years).
The wines are exported to, among others, France, England, Japan and the US, and are praised for their minerality, finesse and vinous character.
