Champagne Daniel Pétré & Fils is a family house of independent growers in Ville-sur-Arce, in the Côte des Bar, founded in 1748 by Édmé Pétré. The family has now passed on the craft through fourteen generations.
Vineyards The estate covers some twenty hectares between Ville-sur-Arce and Essoyes. Plantings are 72% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay and 1.5% Meunier; the rare old varieties Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris together make up 4.5%. These « forgotten varieties » grow on the « Sur Mont Coppé » plot, a monopole wholly owned by the family. The vines average 28 years of age and face south and south-east at about 250 metres altitude, on slopes of up to 44%, on clay-limestone, marly limestone and above all Kimmeridgian soils. Since 2016 the estate has been certified HVE level 3 and VDC; work includes soil cultivation, cover crops, summer leaf removal and manure.
