History: The Champagne Chapuy house has roots in the Côte des Blancs that go back to the French Revolution, when an ancestor of the family became mayor of Oger. The brand name was officially launched in 1952 by Serge Chapuy, who started champagne production. Since 1981 the business has been run by his son Arnold Chapuy, who was joined in 2003 and 2008 by his daughters Élodie (export) and Aurore (cellar and vineyard), putting the third generation at the helm.
Vineyards and Terroir: The family owns a vineyard of approximately 8-9 hectares, of which 3-3.5 hectares lie in the Grand Cru commune of Oger. The vineyards are spread over three areas: the Côte des Blancs (mainly Chardonnay), the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Sézannais. The Chardonnay dominance gives elegant Blanc de Blancs champagnes, while the other plots with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are used for more fruity and rounder blends.
Approach: The estate practises reasoned viticulture (no insecticides or herbicides) and sometimes works with horses for weed management. Production is certified with the French distinction Haute Valeur Environnementale level III. The champagnes are made according to the traditional method, with the wines ageing in the estate's cellars in Oger. Visitors are welcome for cellar visits and tastings on weekdays.
Champagnes and Cuvées: The range includes both blends and single-variety champagnes. Important cuvées are:
- Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru: 100% Chardonnay from Oger.
- Livrée Noire: A prestige cuvée (Grand Cru) with 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir.
- Unique Oger Grand Cru: An exclusive selection of 100% Chardonnay.
- Brut Tradition: A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
- Brut Rosé: A blended rosé (e.g. 65% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Noir vinifié en rouge).
- Esprit de Chapuy: A blended rosé with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir.
